December 2016: Crazy Conspiracy Theories

By Gentry Maughan

Have you ever heard of any conspiracy theories? The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines this term as “a theory that explains an event or set of circumstances as the result of a secret plot…” Although some pretty wild theories exist, a few remain believable.

One of the theories targets the 9/11 attacks on the Twin Towers. A little bit of background information on this terrorist attack; on September 11, 2001, two planes hijacked by Islamic terrorists crashed into the World Trade Center, killing at least 2,500 people. After this tragedy occurred, conspiracies rose about how the planes knocked over the buildings when they hit the top of the Center. A conspiracy theory states that bombs were planted at the bottom of the building that exploded when the planes hit. This would tear down the bases of the towers and make them fall over on each other. There has been evidence that a bomb might’ve been detonated but no official remarks have been made. If you ask me, it sounds like a pretty believable theory.

Have you ever heard of Slenderman? A theory exists, stating Slenderman is real and lurking in the shadows. It sounds pretty ridiculous, but after I read looked at some of the true accounts, I was pretty disturbed. In 1983, a photograph was taken of at least seven children, all with distressed looks on their faces. Slenderman is standing in the background, just watching them. [Keep in mind that this postmodern urban legend was created in 2009.] In 1986, the second of the two recovered pictures of Slendy, shows a few children on a slide and Slenderman standing the background, beckoning the other children to walk to where he was. This is where it gets creepy, fourteen children vanished that day, including the photographer, Mary Thomas. They still haven’t been found.

On that happy note, I highly suggest that you should take a look at some of these theories for yourself. Happy theorizing!
