Careers 4 Kids: Washing Cars

Do you need money, but you can’t get a job because you’re too young? Well, washing cars is a great way to make some extra dough. It’s easy and fun! You could wash cars for your friends, family and neighbors. You could even have a neighborhood car wash as well.

Washing cars is a great job for junior high students. It pays well and it isn’t at all that difficult. Here are some tips for washing cars:

  • Make sure you or your parents know the person you are washing the car for

  • Use two buckets- fill one will clean water and fill the other with soapy water so it’s not easy to mix up the buckets

  • Rinse the car thoroughly before applying the soap. For this, you should use a hose with an adjustable nozzle and car wash soap (dish soap works, too)

  • Most importantly: be safe

  • If you clean the top of the car do not climb on top, for you might hurt yourself

Materials that are most helpful to use:

  • A hose nozzle (with an adjustable sprayer)

  • Two buckets- one for soap the other for clean water

  • Car wash soap (dish soap works just as well)

  • A brush (preferably a stiff one)

  • Absorbent towels (chamois or microfiber car wash cloths work well) a towel to dry the car with after

Washing cars is a super fun and entertaining job, especially for teens and tweens like us. Make sure, when you need money in the future you consider this. Be safe, have fun, and good luck, Grizzlies!
