There are a lot of things and situations that many people would be terrified of, such as spiders, clowns, snakes, public speaking, etc. Those are some fairly common fears, but there are some things that people are scared of that seem completely irrational!
Let’s start off with some odd nature-related phobias. For example, there is heliophobia, which is the fear of the sun and/or sunlight. If that’s not odd enough for you, there is an even more inexplicable fear; the fear of rain, ombrophobia, as in falling drops of water. Another very weird phobia is meleagrisphobia. This is the fear of turkeys. I personally have this uncommon fear, so if anyone else does, I know how you feel. While those are some strange things to be scared of, the “terror fest” is just starting.
While there are many other things in nature to be afraid of, here are a couple aversions that are more on the ironic side. One of these interesting disturbances is hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia — the fear of long words. I don’t know about you, but I don’t think that’s a very good name for the phobia, considering what it means. Anyway, yet another contradictory repulsion is phobophobia. That is the fear of phobias!
These next few terrors are just flat-out odd. To illustrate, one of these interesting distastes is papyrophobia, the fear of paper. We know that any people don’t care much for math, but some people are actually scared of the subject! This is known as arithmophobia. This next terror is for those who are scared of something everyone has: names! That’s referred to as onomatophobia.
Ultimately, there are a lot of things to be afraid of, both with reason and without. There’s no judgement to anyone who has any of the listed phobias. Being scared is natural, but sometimes we can get frightened by the weirdest things.
