Opinion: Dangers of Vaping

In the year of 2018, 38% of high schoolers and 13% of middle schoolers have tried vaping. Vaping is becoming more of a prominent issue in our world today. It is extremely harmful and has several long/short term dangers.

To start, vape vapor can cause gum inflammation which can lead to gum disease. The nicotine, that is often put into the juice for vapes, acts as a vasoconstrictor and narrows blood vessels. It inhabits the part of the body that allows saliva production. WIthout saliva, your mouth becomes highly susceptible to bacteria build-up, dry mouth, bad breath, and tooth decay. This is one of the many health side effects of vaping.

In addition, there are plenty more of extreme health dangers associated with inhaling vapor from vape pens. For example, vaping lowers the body’s ability to fight off infections and become immune to small illnesses, it causes a coat of pentanedione and diacetyl to build-up inside the lungs which is found in many vape flavors along with formaldehyde which is used in embalming fluid, the substance that keeps dead bodies preserved.

Often, those looking for a safer alternative to traditional smoking, turn to E-Cigs and vapes. Although these electronic forms of smoking are said to be safer and better for health, those who have vapes hardly ever regulate their use of it. This action is much more harmful to the body than cigarettes.

In the end, vaping is a serious issue. It causes many dangers to the body and teens need to be informed of its harmful effects.
