The libero in a volleyball game is the main passer that starts the play. Their main goal is to get the ball to the setter’s spot on the court. Liberos play a major role in the flow of the game of volleyball; without the libero, most of the game would be serving and acing. Claire Richins is one such passer on the Greenfield, eighth-grade volleyball team. Richins has never played volleyball before, but she looks like a pro out on the court.
Claire decided about a week ago that she wanted to play volleyball. Although her past is filled with soccer games without a hint of interest toward volleyball, she risked her junior high soccer career to try something new. I asked Claire if skipping out on soccer was worth volleyball, her simple answer was, “Yeah.”
Aside from her passion for sports, she is the president of the National Junior Honor Society. A common topic between Richins and her friends at lunch is, and I quote, “This food’s good.” I questioned her to see what she thought about problems. Claire’s answer was short and to the point, “Problems suck.” Claire’s favorite food is Caesar Salad, and her favorite colors are white and yellow. If Claire wasn’t playing volleyball every afternoon, she would spend her time playing soccer. Richins favorite movie is White Chicks, which is about two African Americans who have to dress up as two white sisters as bait for a kidnapping.
In conclusion, Claire Richins is a great volleyball player. She is also a great friend and if you ever get a chance to meet her congratulate her on her volleyball success.
