REVIEW: Aquaman

As some of you may know, the 2018 film Aquaman, recently splashed into theaters on December 21, 2018. It has a 64% on Rotten Tomatoes, a 55% on Metacritic, and a 94% on Google. This film has a PG-13 rating, and falls under the fantasy/science fiction genre. The director, James Wan, spent an average of $160-200 million dollars on this film. Now that you’ve heard the facts, it’s time for the review.

This film follows a young man, known as Aquaman. He goes through the adventurous movie trying to learn about himself, wishing to meet his mother, and having to avoid his crazy brother, Orm, who is after him. This movie contains a little bit of romance. I don’t want to spoil anything, but it’s quite cheesy. Although, if you’re into cheesy romances, with a twist of action, then this movie is for you.

Critics around the world state that this film is a “must see in theaters” due to the amazing surround sound. The quality of the visuals is what the critics are raving about. If you thought this review was going to be all good though, you’re sadly mistaken. Most of the critics’ reviews consist of the same thing. “It doesn’t suck, but only if you’re willing to sit through two hours of waterlogged, world-building before the movie finally takes off” (Quoted by critic Peter Debruge). After watching the film, I completely agree with the critics; it takes forever to get to the action. If you want to get an idea, about the first hour of the movie is just the backstory of Aquaman’s childhood.

In the long run, I think you could skip this movie. It’s just too much time wasted, and a sappy love story. I hope this helped you decide if you want to swim into theaters to view this film.
