Notes are a very important part of learning new material. Without clean and understandable notes, it becomes more confusing and frustrating to learn the content. Here are six ways to help take better notes:
Handwriting is a very important part of note taking. Neat handwriting and correct spacing can make notes seem cleaner. Words and letters close together can seem sloppier and unreadable. On the contrary, words and letters with slight spaces in between can seem better and look like more time was spent on writing it.
Adding a bit of color can also be very helpful. Highlighting vocabulary words, and important parts of your notes with vibrant color can help your mind focus and understand better.
Organization can help your mind understand new material better. Separating your notes, (like vocabulary and other notes) can help your mind focus on each separate part of material.
Visual learning is similar to adding color. Including a drawing, sketch, or doodle can help refocus and remind your brain to keep you working.
Write down key facts. If you have a teacher who writes notes on the board, that’s an added bonus. It makes it easier and you can copy them down.
Don’t overdo your notes. You’ll be frantic if you try to write down every single word. When you feel frantic while trying to take notes, they become messy and sloppy.
In the end, it’s all about what works best for you to remember the material. But hopefully these tips helped!
